Actually Friends: A Live 30-Day Challenge

Turn "we should hang soon" into actual plans

A live 30-day friendship challenge for adults who want more real-life connection and are tired of only reacting to each other's Instagram stories.

A group of six friends laughing and walking arm in arm down a lit-up street at night

Okay, let's be real

"We should hang soon" has basically become the official slogan of adult friendship.

You meet someone great, have one of those conversations where you think, "Wait, I actually want to see this person again," and then somehow months go by while you're just liking each other's stories and sending the occasional "miss you" text.

Sending each other reels? Very consistent. Making plans? Less so.

You might be new to a city and still figuring out who feels like your people. You might work remotely and miss the kind of conversation that happens when nobody is checking if they're on mute. You might know a lot of people, but not know how to turn that "we should hang" energy into something real. Or life got full, a move, a breakup, a baby, a busy season, and suddenly the people you care about feel a little harder to reach.

Actually Friends helps you close the gap between "we should" and "we did."

What this actually helps you do

For 30 days, you'll practice how to:

  • Meet new people without it feeling like networking
  • Reconnect with someone you miss
  • Turn an acquaintance into an actual friend
  • Send a clear invite without rewriting the text six times
  • Get past "I'm good, how are you?"
  • Make the second invitation after a good first hang
  • Show up more for the people already in your life
  • Build a recurring plan that keeps friendship on the calendar

By the end, you might have a new connection, a friendship that feels alive again, or just proof that texting first is usually not as awkward as it feels.

Friendship has its own timing. This challenge just gives it more places to start.

This is for you if

  • You just moved and want to meet people nearby
  • You work remote and miss casual human contact
  • Your social life mostly lives in your phone
  • You want to turn acquaintances into real friends
  • Your closest people live far away
  • You know a lot of people and still want more depth
  • You miss someone and keep putting off the text
  • You're tired of waiting for someone else to make the plan

Whether you're introverted, busy, partnered, single, a parent, or just trying to keep a plant alive, you get to define what friendship looks like for you, whether that's a big social circle, three close friends, or the occasional Irish goodbye.

Here's how the challenge works

This meets you exactly where you are.

1

We start together

Our first live call is October 1. The 30-day challenge begins Monday, October 5.

2

You get one dare a day

Each weekday brings one clear action, a script if needed, a check-in, and a video lesson from Joni.

3

You pick your level

Every dare comes in Easy, Brave, or Bold: a low-lift move, a real stretch, or a shoot-your-shot swing.

4

We debrief every week

Four live calls, one each week. I'll share a practical topic on building stronger relationships and open the floor for questions.

Miss a day? Keep going. One skipped dare doesn't mean you're out.

Choose your level, every single day

Every dare comes with three categories. You get to choose the one that feels most aligned for the day.

Easy

A small, low-pressure move for a full or low-energy day.

Example: send the text you've been drafting.

Brave

A clear action that stretches you past autopilot.

Example: invite someone to something specific, not "let's hang out sometime."

Bold

A bigger social move for the day you're ready to shoot your shot.

Example: show up somewhere alone and stay for the whole thing.

The five skills you'll build

01

Notice

Pay attention to the people and places that already hold potential.

02

Initiate

Start the conversation. Send the text. Walk into the room anyway.

03

Invite

Turn a warm feeling into an actual plan: a date, a time, a place.

04

Deepen

Ask better questions. Share something real. Let people actually know you.

05

Repeat

Follow up. Make the second invite. Build something recurring.

You already know how to care about people. This month turns that care into real connection.

Your four weeks

01

Notice the Openings

Look at your current social life honestly.

Who do you miss? Who do you want to know better? Where are the openings you've been walking past?

02

Make the Plan

"We should hang out sometime" gives everyone nothing to work with.

This week is clear invites, simple follow-ups, and going somewhere alone without spiraling over one slow reply.

03

Get Past "I'm Good"

Meeting people is one skill. Letting them actually know you is another.

Better questions, a little more honesty, and the second hang.

04

Become the Friend You Want

This week is all about how you show up.

Following through, remembering the details, building something recurring.

Why I made this

I'm Joni! I just moved to California, which means I'm once again in my "making friends as an adult" era.

This is not my first friendship reset. I moved from Chicago to Arizona during college and had to figure out how to build a life in a place where no one knew my backstory or my favorite coffee order.

I had to meet people, follow up, send the text, make the plan, and slowly turn "we should hang out" into the friendships that made Arizona feel like home.

Now I'm doing it again, and it feels familiar in the most humbling way. A new city can be exciting and full of possibility, and still leave you missing the people who already know your long stories, your tiny dramas, and all the past versions of you.

You can meet plenty of interesting people and still not know who to call on a random night just to hang out. Knowing people and having your people are two very different things.

I built Actually Friends from lived experience. I know how much courage can fit inside one simple text, and how easy it is to assume everyone else already has their people.

The truth is, most people are hoping someone else will make the first move.

We're not going to sugarcoat it

This only works if you actually show up and try the dares.

It's not a passive challenge you half-watch and forget. It's 30 days of small, real action.

If you're juggling a million things, it might be tempting to sign up and hope friendship magically reorganizes itself around your calendar. But this works because you protect a little time each day to do the thing: send the text, make the plan, and show up to the debrief.

The founding cohort

Our first live call is October 1, 2026, and the 30-day challenge kicks off Monday, October 5.

You'll be doing this alongside some of the coolest humans on the planet who want to just fuck around and find out. People who also want deeper friendships, better follow-through, and fewer "we should hang soon" texts floating around.

We're building a room that feels warm, funny, honest, and a little unhinged in the best way. The kind of place where an awkward story gets met with "same," not silence.

The vibe is simple: show up, try the dares, fuck around and find out how much can change in 30 days.

Frequently asked questions

Is this a course?
No. It's a live 30-day challenge. Each day, you'll learn one friendship skill, try it in your real life, and report back.
Do I need to be actively looking for new friends?
Nope. This works whether you want new people, want to reconnect with someone you miss, or just want to be a better friend to the people already in your corner.
What if I'm introverted or socially anxious?
Every dare has Easy, Brave, and Bold versions. Pick the one that stretches you without ignoring your capacity. This isn't a replacement for therapy or mental health support, just to be clear.
What if I miss a day?
Keep going with the group, or use the weekend to catch up. You don't need a perfect streak to get real value out of this.
How much time will this actually take?
Most weekday dares take under 15 minutes. The opening workshop is 75 minutes, weekly debriefs are 30. Some weekend side quests involve an actual outing.
Are the live calls recorded?
Yes, replays go up after every call.
Will you match me with a friend?
No, this gives you the dares, scripts, and accountability to use within your actual life and community, not a friend-matching service.
Who do I contact with questions?
Email me directly at hi@jonicesario.com and I'll get back to you.

Final call

You can love the people in your life and still crave deeper friendships.

Plans that make it onto the calendar. Conversations that don't stop at "we should do this again." People who know the fuller version of your story, not just the version that shows up in the group chat.

Actually Friends gives you 30 days of clear actions, real scripts, live support, and a group willing to go first with you.
